The business has National Lottery and Payzone commissions providing excellent additional income for the business

History

The business started in 1955 as a small corner shop and in the 1960's doubled in size by acquiring the shop next door. The business was one of the first to adopt the National Lottery when it began and also has Payzone for its customers.

The business accounts are current up to September 2009 and show a healthy profit from the current turnover.
The business is VAT registered

Other than the two owners sharing the workload of the business there are no other full time staff
The business employs three part time staff
The business is not tied in any way to a regular supplier

Property

The business is to be sold with the Freehold property it occupies. The owners have recently invested over £40,000 on modernisation of the premises to meet current standards for fire regulations. Two sizeable domestic flats with specfic access have been constructed upstairs in the building and are available for letting out.

Typical rentals for these flats are around £400.00* per month per apartment providing a good supplementary income for the new owners of the business.

The Café is a former old post office at 255A Market Street, the restoration of the property included substantial ground works, double insulation and electrical refit has been undertaken to a high standard by the owners prior to opening the doors in 2009

There is very little in the way of competition around for Lizzie Lumbs and since it's opening in October 2009 the business has been attracting bicycle riders and walkers alike in droves, particularly at the weekends when business is very lively. When we visited Lizzie's further construction work was being undertaken to extend the 10 cover café area to an in side further 20 seat covers and two outside decking seating areas and if the purchaser of the business required the second adjoining room to the main seating area which should open up the covers to around 40 seats. (Subject to planning approval)

The owners is currently building a bike rack and dog watering area to the right front aspect of the café as seen on the pictures.

Further scope to extend the property exists to the left of the front entrance again subject to necessary planning consent.

Internet sales rise

Internet Shopping Soars August 2009

According to figures from the e-Retail Sales Index, online sales grew by 15.7 per cent from June and 16.8 per cent compared to July 2008.

The growth was driven by clothing, footwear and accessories sector, which saw an 18 per cent month-on-month increase, up 17 per cent on the same month last year and electricals, which grew 11 per cent on June, up 19 per cent from July 2008.

However, online alcohol sales sank 15 per cent from June and 23 per cent on the same month last year the first fall in sales growth for this sector for the month of July since 2004.

The growth continues to be driven by the apparel and electrical sectors as retailers further improve their online propositions with better product information, visual merchandising and delivery methods.

The other stand out result this month was the beers, wines and spirits sector. No doubt [the fall in sales] is due to the wettest July on record for England and Wales.
